Mason County Meets
The Saturday meets at Maysville continue despite challenges from Ole Man Winter keeping the number of attendees down for a few weeks. A large spectrum of track & field events are available for $12. Last week, Valdis Zeps competed in his first meet since high school. He ran with the middle school boys in the mile, and was the overall winner with a time of 5:15! National competitor James Brayboy came to run the 55 meters to qualify for the USATF Indoor Meet in Albuquerque. He ran 6.65 seconds. A steady number of masters have been coming to these meets on a regular basis to work on their sprints, middle distance, jumps and throws. The buffet at scenic Blue Licks Lodge is a nice treat on the way home, too. One meet remains on Feb 27. Complete results and entry forms can be found at www.ktccca.org.
I attended the screening of Chariots of Fire on Feb 5th at the restored Grand Theater in Frankfort, making connections with people from running community /businesses. Displayed entry forms on literature table. Contact person was Debbie Brown of Proactive for Life 5K. Frank Miklavcic of KY Track & Cross Country Coaches Association also there. Debbie is organizer and Frank works finish line/results for this June Frankfort race that is growing.
USATF’s big Indoor Meet will be the Mason–Dixon Games in Louisville on Friday, March 5th.
First event will be at 4:30pm. Longest distance will be 3K. This is a raised, banked 200 meter wooden track. The middle schoolers will also compete that night, but the masters/open will not run with the kids. Our events will be separate. This meet usually draws some top athletes from Kentucky and other states. All are welcome, no qualifying heats.
Information on time schedule, past year’s results can be found at www.ktccca.org as can the entry form.
