Thanksgiving Day, November 24
Keeneland Race Course, Lexington, Kentucky
A Note of Thanks from our Race Director
Individual commitment to a group effort – that’s what made our 28th Thoroughbred Classic a success once again. Many, many thanks to all who were involved in any way, shape or form. And a special shout out to all our volunteers who are not club members. Because each person played an important role – and I don’t want to leave anyone out – I will refrain from individual recognition here.
Our race this year was by far the largest ever – we registered approximately 2450 (this includes about 200 on race day and about 50 for the 1 mile) this year, which is 500 more than last year. Our online registration went from 1320 last year to 2015 this year. We chip-timed over 2050 out of the 2200 who registered and were assigned a chip. Overall, we received positive feedback and that is in large part due to all the hard work put forth by all of you.
Because our race was so successful, I am hopeful that we will make substantial donations to our 5 charities. With our economy in turmoil, it will be especially gratifying that we can give even more than last year, as many charities and non-profits are experiencing cutbacks in donations.
Please know that all this was possible because of you. From the help with packet pickup to race day cleanup – it could not have been done without club participation. If you weren’t involved in the race this year, there is always next year. It’s a great way to get to know your fellow club members while performing a very worthwhile service for your community.
Louise Hensley,
Race Director
